Dr. Thomas G. Byrne Named Chief Medical Officer at Family Health Center of Worcester, Inc.

Family physician Thomas G. Byrne, MD, joined Family Health Center of Worcester as Chief Medical Officer on August 31.

“We excited that Dr. Byrne has joined us,” said Frances M. Anthes, President and CEO of Family Health Center of Worcester. “Dr. Byrne is an experienced physician leader, who brings a wealth of experience as a clinician, an administrator, and as a teacher to Family Health Center. I am confident that with his leadership and expertise, we will continue to deliver the highest quality care to all of our patients.”
Byrne has more than 25 years of experience in family medicine. He most recently served as Medical Director of Hallmark Health Medical Associates in the North Suburban Boston area. Among his accomplishments, Byrne is credited with increasing medical staff by 30 percent, developing a clinical mentoring program, and improving communication among providers.


Prior to this role, Byrne served in several leadership positions at Southern New Hampshire Health System, including serving as Chair of the Family Medicine Department at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Byrne has also served as Chief of the Family Medicine Department and on the faculty at Central Maine Medical Center, worked as a family medicine physician for eight years at DFD Russell Community Health Center in Maine, and held various faculty and leadership positions in the United States Navy.


Byrne replaces Gregory Culley, MD, who is retiring from his role as Chief Medical Officer at Family Health Center of Worcester.


“We are grateful for Dr. Culley’s strong leadership for the past four years and appreciate the many ways he has supported the growth and expansion of Family Health Center,” said Anthes.

Byrne, a native of Hudson, MA, earned a degree from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD, followed by a family medicine residency at Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL. Byrne is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Healthcare Quality and Safety Management at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.
